Journal Summary The article that will be discussed is â€Å"He loves me; He loves me not: Attachment and Separation Resolution of Abused Women† (A.J.Z Henderson, K. Bartholomew, and D.G Dutton). It is a study where sixty-three abused women were being assessed of leaving their abusive relationships. The study lasted six months, where the women’s feeling, their thoughts, and behaviors regarding their separation from their abuser were recorded. The study asks why women stay in the abusive relationships. R.J. Gelles says it well, â€Å" Unfortunately, the answer to why women remain with their abusive husband is not nearly as simple as the assumption that underlies the question.† Several psychological theories suggested like battered women syndrome, psychological entrapment, and the survivor theory. The leading theory discussed in this article is the â€Å"Attachment Theory.† Attachment theory is suggested to have attachment patterns that are incorporated into a personâ€℠¢s personality and mental representation of oneself and others.
